トンコハウスは、ピクサーでアートディレクターを務めていた堤大介とロバート・コンドウが、2014年に短編映画『ダム・キーパー』を共同監督したことをきっかけに、2014年7月にカリフォルニア州バークレーに共同設立したアニメーションスタジオ。
『ダム・キーパー』は2015年に第87回アカデミー賞短編アニメーション賞にノミネートされたほか、世界各地で25の賞を受賞、75の映画祭で上映された。
2016年制作の短編映画『ムーム』は世界8ヵ国の映画祭で数々の賞を受賞。2017年、日本のHuluで配信されたエリック・オー監督の『ピッグ – 丘の上のダム・キーパー』は、フランスのアヌシー国際アニメーション映画祭2018にて、TV部門でグランプリに値するクリスタル賞を受賞し、配信後にNHKでも放送された人気作品。Netflixで配信中の『Go! Go! コリー・カーソン』ではアートディレクションを担当したほか、同じくNetflixにてアニメーション界のアカデミー賞ともいわれるアニー賞で２冠を達成した『ONI ~ 神々山のおなり』を配信中。2019年からは石川県金沢市にもスタジオを構え、日米の2拠点をベースに活動している。
TONKO HOUSE
Tonko House was co-founded in July 2014 in Berkeley, California, by ex-Pixar art directors Dice Tsutsumi and Robert Kondo. It all kicked off when they co-directed the short film The Dam Keeper in 2014.
The Dam Keeper got major props, snagging a nomination for Best Animated Short at the 87th Academy Awards in 2015. It also won 25 awards worldwide and was screened at 75 film festivals across the globe.
Their 2016 short film Moom picked up numerous awards at film festivals in eight countries. In 2017, Pig: The Dam Keeper Poems, directed by Eric Oh, dropped on Hulu Japan. This hit show bagged the Crystal Award for TV at the 2018 Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France and was later broadcasted on NHK.
On Netflix, they handled art direction for Go! Go! Cory Carson and dropped ONI: Thunder God’s Tale, which took home two Annie Awards, aka the Oscars of animation. Since 2019, they’ve been rocking a second studio in Kanazawa, Japan, working from both the US and Japan.
